Les Beaux Arts - Bages

After walking around the village of Bages in the late afternoon, - benefitting from the cool winds off the etang - visiting the various art galleries, looking at the grand sea/etang front mansions, enjoying the picturesque narrow streets, - it was good to sit outside the local bar and sip drinks in the very attractive main square of the village.
Les Beaux Arts - Bages
The Restaurant Les Beaux Arts, is above the bar, looking onto the village square, however its entrance is accessed from a street behind the building - and be prepared to climb a circular staircase to the first floor dining room.

To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. Sentier La Forêt
de Fontfroide

La Forêt de Fontfroide - Narbonne

The original religious foundation on this site was a Benedictine establishment. The position is in a classic situation for a Benedictine abbey, tucked into a narrow, sheltered valley remote from the outside world. It is located in the Corbières area in the Aude département, just off the Autoroute between Narbonne and Carcassonne. The Cistercian Abbey of Fontfroide was founded in 1145, and became one of the most important and richest Cistercian abbeys in the Midi. It was the murder of a monk from Fontfroide, the papal legate Pierre de Castelnau, at dawn, on the 15th of January 1208, that provided Pope Innocent III with his pretext for the Cathar Crusade. Olivier de Termes is though to be buried here in the chapel of Saint Bernard (dedicated to Bernard of Clairvaux), which he founded. One of Fontfroide's abbots, Jacques Fournier, became Bishop of Pamiers in 1317 and a keen inquisitor (responsible for the arrest of the village of Montaillou). ..

Narbonne

Narbonne

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés.
