A.O.P. La Clape

A.O.P. La Clape

The La Clape AOP is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character.

The area is "listed" for its diversity of vegetation (a site a special natural interest). The exceptional sunny climate and low rainfall make it ideal for the cultivation of vines. These assets and the care in the production allow the wine producers to offer a range of quality wines.

A.O.P. La Clape

La Clape is one of the oldest wine-producing areas of the entire Languedoc region, thanks to its proximity to the earliest Roman settlements of Mediterranean France. The arid climate and rocky soils yield powerful Languedoc wines with dark fruit flavors and surprisingly silky tannins.

A.O.P. La Clape
Bourboulenc is rare, but is allowed into a number of white wine appellations of southern France. Only in white La Clape, a geographical designation that may be used in conjunction with the "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée" (AOC-AOP) Coteaux du Languedoc, is Bourboulec the dominant grape variety. White La Clape must contain a minimum of 40% Bourboulenc..

La Clape, once an island in the river mouth of the Aude, has always attracted men. Its history began more than 2000 years ago when Julius Caesar gave this land as a reward to his best legionnaires. They were the first to plant vines on the massif and successfully to sell the wine of La Clape. Mourvedre

Château Laquirou

Château Laquirou - Fleury d'Aude

Red Wine  Rosé

The Domaine of Château Laquirou belongs to the Family Erika and Eckard Hug-Harke. It lies in the Massif of La Clape near the Mediterranean coast, a few kilometres away from the historic city of Narbonne. La Clape(pile of stones in occitan) is the jewel of the Coteaux du Languedoc. The poor soil and the exceptional amount of sunshine in this region are the best conditions to elaborate high quality wines. The location of Château Laquirou is exceptional: it nestles in a shallow south-facing basin that is sheltered from the dominant winds. The 38 ha of vineyards are surrounded by 60 ha of unspoiled garrigue, with its wealth of plant species and wildlife. You can discover rare eyed lizards, blue tits, European rollers, bee-eaters, hoopoes and at night, you can hear the eerie shriek of long-eared owls or the merry croaks of charming tree frogs. Rabbits and even wild boars also roam this area in midst of variegated flora. Aromatic plants (rosemary, thyme, brown-berried juniper), the luminous yellow blossoms of broom and even the extremely rare Centaurea of la Clape are native to this area. The silhouette of umbrella pines, holm oaks (or ausines in the local dialect), cork oaks, as well as limestone cliffs enhance the charm of this magnificent landscape...

Château d'Anglès - Saint-Pierre la Mer

Château d'Anglès

Château d'Anglès - Saint-Pierre la Mer

Red Wine White Wine Rosé

The Château d'Anglès vines bask in 300 days of sunshine a year, enjoy an average temperature of 14°C and benefit from the prevailing dry northerly winds to keep them healthy. In addition, the moisture carried inland by the night sea breeze allows the grapes to reach full aromatic and phenolic maturation. Developed from the Bourboulenc grape (also known as Malvoisie), the Château d'Anglès white wines have a pale yellow body with a highly elegant lemony and slightly flinty aroma. Smaller amounts of Marsanne, Roussanne and white Grenache add an extra floral and fruity complex. The red wines are made from Syrah for its blackcurrant flavours, Carignan for its personality, Mourvèdre giving them longevity and full bodied tannins and the Grenache Noir adding smoothness. The Château d'Anglès rosé is made of Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache and immediately conjures up hot summer days with cicadas chirping away in the background. It is supple and round with raspberry, peach and citrus aromas...

Château de Marmorières - Vinassan

Red Wine White Wine Rosé

The land of Château de Marmorières is located on the eastern part of the massive Clape, near Fleury d'Aude and its beach Saint Pierre la Mer. In a green setting of 400 acres of the 110 hectares of vines are arranged in shape of a horseshoe on the side of a bowl exposed south-south-east, facing the sea Marmorières: it is a continuity, a chain and foremost a family for 7 generations in a direct line. Destroyed in 1875 by the phylloxera, the vineyard was completely renewed by an ancestor of the current owners. Her daughter, the Countess of Woillemont continued his work and was founding president of the appellation "The Clap" by believing the first to the quality policy. More than half the area was replanted to give the wines of 2000 features and quality that you ask the modern designations.. .

Château Camplazens - Armissan

Red Wine White Wine Rosé

Camplazens is located at the top of La Clape, a limestone mountain 10 miles long and 4 miles wide overlooking the Mediterranean. La Clape is an official sub-appellation of Coteaux du Languedoc that is gaining in reputation for its wine making. Only 26 vineyards are situated on La Clape, an environmentally protected land since 1965, and the only permitted activity is grape growing. The Close Family's mission is: "to develop the potential of La Clape to produce rich, full-bodied red wines that reflect the tastes and aromas of this special microclimate”. Susan and Peter Close, a couple from the North of England, have always had a passion for good food and wine. After bringing up a family in New Orleans, Louisiana for twenty years they decided to follow a life long dream of owning a vineyard, and the challenge of producing good quality wines..
