  Specialities

The setting of this restaurant is beautiful, right on the lake. During the day you can watch windsurfers and swimmers, there is also for  the children an inflatable playground on the water... In the evening, you can watch the sun diving into the water, like the maraschino cherry in your Vermouth. The outdoor restaurant is half covered and when too much wind you can sit within by a large window.

The atmosphere is casual and many of the guests are from the nearby vacation homes and campers. But there are also patrons, families and guests of locals.

The boss is always friendly and welcoming. This is a good place to take visitors and guests because of the view and the fact that you simply can enjoy drinks, coffee and ice cream. And there is also a wide range of cocktails. And you can swim. There are tasty salads for a light lunch. Live music on Sunday nights in the summer and beautiful sunsets...

Minervois

A.O.C. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Le Pont de Répudre

Le Pont de Répudre - Ventenac-en-Minervois

Le Pont de Répudre, a historical work par excellence, it is near the village of Paraza, in a beautiful natural setting. This is the first canal bridge built in France, the second in the world. It is the only one built by Riquet, the others having been built later, most by Vauban. Travelers stopped to see the unusual sight while boats passing over a bridge. The canal bridge, begun in 1676, has held 400 people on its site. The amount of gravel carried by the torrent still show the need to cross the river under the Channel. In the middle of the façade, a marble plaque placed in the last century by the heirs of Paul Riquet recalls that he was the inventor. The bridge arch which was damaged during floods in December 1999 has been beautifully repaired. A magical place!

Le Moulin de l'Oulibo - L’Odyssée de l’Olivier

Le Moulin de l'Oulibo - L’Odyssée de l’Olivier - Bize Minervois

L'Oulibou is a fascinating place to visit. Only 3.5 km from Mailhac, it produces some award winning oils and olives which can be sampled in the very mill where they have been made. You can also see the whole process that olives go through in order to make them into a wide variety of oils. The 'lucque' is one of the main olives of the Languedoc Roussillon area and it under goes some magical transformation within the walls of this traditional mill. 2 kilometres from Bize, just off the main road between Beziers and Carcassonne, you will find l’Oulibo, a cooperative that produces some of the best olives and olive oils in France. Bize is part of the Minervois region that includes the village of Minerve 10kms to the north which was the site of a famous siege by Simon de Montfort and the consequent martyrdom of the Cathars. Nearby are Beziers (35 minutes) and Narbonne (25 minutes) with cathedrals, excellent markets, shops, museums, and much more...

Le Musée du Château de Ventenac - Ventenac-en-Minervois

A place, a history, a passion ... Cross the aisle vault, lined tanks of old Verrees, enter the heart of our cave and visit the museum. Follow the marked route and discover the old tools, cooperage, carriages and wagons old. The Castle of Ventenac was erected in the eighteenth century on the foundations of an ancient castle. The name of Ventenac is its etymology in Roman times: Villa Ventenachus. Castrum Venthenacum was taken in the twelfth century by Simon de Montfort at the time of the Cathars. This is the nineteenth century that Ms. Seguy Saint Siran built the castle in its present form, giving it its prestigious appearance reminiscent of a religious building. At his death, the vineyard, the cellar and the castle became the property of Pauline Meyer. It is in 1938 that deal with the threat of war, the Meyer family left France....

Minerve

Minerve

Minerve has been selected as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (‘The Most Beautiful Villages Of France’). Historically, the village has been the capital of the Minervois wine region. The main bridge leading into the village is closed to all passenger vehicles not owned by residents of Minerve. Of all of the original fortifications, only a slender octagonal tower, known locally as the Candela, survives. The village is situated on top of the gorge of the River Cesse in a naturally strong defensive position. Near the village the river disappears underground in large, naturally-carved tunnels....
