Domaine des 2 Anes consists of 20 hectaires of vines, in amongst a holding of 60 hectares, surrounded by garrigues ( Mediterranean scrub) and pines.

Situated in the maritime plain of the Corbieres, between the Mediterranean and the lower hills, our vineyards of Grenache, red and white, Carignan, Mourverdre and Shiraz, stretch down towards the salt lagoons of Bages.

Why the 2 Donkeys?
We have a soft spot for these adorable animals. They are a bit like us two, stubborn and doing their own thing off the beaten track. Following our own convictions, we have taken a step back from the main stream, and have thus avoided the crisis of conventional wine making in the region.

Why Organic Farming?
We love life and our surroundings too much to poison them. It gives us great pleasure to work in this way and that pleasure can be found in the bottle!

  Specialties

Here at Peyriac we work in a very complementary way, each fulfilling his own role, Dominique in the vines and Magali in the winery. We have one full time member of staff, but are very conscious of working on a human and family scale. Far from the world of global winemaking ,we seek the simple pleasures of life in which wine reflects our identities and is a focus of friendship. This desire to follow our own convictions means we are always questioning attitudes and practices, but we get enormous satisfaction and pleasure from it. It is that pleasure that we would like to share with you through our wines.

Good wine is made from sound grapes grown from a healthy soil. We don’t add fertilisers to our soil. Instead we make up liquid composts from plants and other organic material which encourage the natural growth of the root system and make the minerals more accessible to the plants. The use of plant preparations as used in the world of biodynamics, encourages the plants to build up their natural defences. The unblocking effect has the added benefit of making the vines more resistant to draught. We keep cultivation to a minimum, thus reducing the risk of soil compaction and allowing the natural growth of grasses and herbs. The use of sulphur, together with seaweed extract and clay, helps us combat our principle enemy, powdery mildew. By rigorous pruning, debudding and the judicious removal of leaves, we are able to get the grapes to a perfect state of maturity. Our methods are always evolving. We have to be attentive, receptive and react using our senses and intuition...

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Randonnée Les Etangs de Bages - Bages

The étang of Bages-Sigean - one of the typical lagoons of the French mediterranean coast. The kingdom of birds, realm of the pink flamingos. In antiquity, the river port of Narbonne was situated close to what is today the étang de Bages-Sigean. At the time the étang was a vast gulf, open to the sea where ships from across the mediterranean weighed anchor. It was called Lacus Rubresus by the Romans because of the alluvial silt, coloured by red earth from the high valley of the Aude. The gulf was protected by the islands of St Martin, St Lucie (which now belongs to the coastal conservation area) and La Clape, today joined to the mainland. . In the 15th century the gulf transformed into the lagoon, or étang we know today, covering 5500 hectares. It is linked to the sea by the narrow inlet of Port-la-Nouvelle. After many centuries as centre of a flourishing maritime commerce, the étang is now home to professional fishing boats - the traditional flat-bottomed bétous. Pleasure craft are also welcome (the traditional catalans) and professionals in nautical sports and activities propose courses and events all year round. Boating is an excellent way to get the most out of your visit to this magnificent natural landscape which shelters an exceptional flora and fauna, at the origin of the creation of the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée regional natural park...

Abbaye de Fontfroide

Abbaye de Fontfroide - Narbonne

It is one of the most beautiful Cistercian abbeys of France, founded in 1093 and saved from ruin in 1908 by art patrons Gustave and Madeleine Fayet. While discovering the dormitory and refectory, you will plunge into history and learn about the particularities of the Cistercian Order. You will find out, for instance, that the professed monks never met the conversi, or lay brothers, who were manual workers....

Les Terrasses

Les Terrasses de la Berre - Portel des Corbières

The owners of Les Terrasses de la Berre gives you a warm welcome. This charming restaurant is a small cosy place with a fireplace, badly needed, because it was lashing rain outside. The small village of Bages that dominates the pond on its hill is a pure marvel that deserves that the tourists who come to stay in the region must see.
