Dolmen des Fades - Pépieux

The Dolmen des Fades is surrounded by a forest of pines a little away from the road on a hill at a place called "Morrel de las Fadas", which means in Occitan "Slope of the Fairies." The monument is the biggest dolmen long hallway (previously covered walkway) in the south of France.
Dolmen des Fades - Pépieux
It was built, according to the archaeologists ca. 3500 BC (late Neolithic) by the people of la culture the Véraza: the remains of this culture were first found in 1903 at this place after plowing of the terrain and then in 1946 after meticulous excavations by Odette and Jean Taffanel a necropolis of the "Champs d'Urnes" revealed. They found include a dagger with brass rivets, a very original piece in the  Olonzac Museum where it is stored...
  Specialities

To describe the memorial, we quote Jean Guilaine, a professor at the College of France. "This large rectangular building, 24m in size, built in blocks of different rocks (limestone, gray sandstone, red sandstone), has a long corridor of alternating pillars and drystone, anteroom with capstone and finally a more eroded terminal "cella". Two doors realized by sculpted stone slabs that had to separate the interior space. Built at the end of the Neolithic period (around 3000 BC), the dolmen was still in use at the time of the copper era (à campaniforme) and at the beginning of the Bronze age. " The Dolmen des Fades is the biggest dolmen in the south of France".

From Pépieux direction Minerve (take D 206), and after 2 km, at the area of Mignarde, take the first left (D 168); The Dolmen is shown on the left at km. It stands on a hill planted with pine trees, where you have a beautiful view.

Minervois

A.O.P. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Château Massamier La Mignarde - Pépieux

A.O.C. MinervoisLe Château Massamier La Mignarde is a vineyard of 70 hectares located at the foot of the Black mountains, near the ancient city of Minerve. At the time of the Roman Empire, a legion named Maximus seattled in a villa, he gave the name of Maximana, which is now Massamier. It's history is essentially linked to that of the Minervois region since the first written citing the Pagus Menerbensis (Minervois) date of 836 and recounts a dispute concerning the delimitation of territory of Maximiana. The owners, the Vènes family, have been there for generations in Minervois, will help you to discover its history. Impassioned by the wine, they have devoted a lot of time and energy in the pursuit of quality. The vineyard Château Massamier La Mignarde extends from an altitude of 70 metres to 370 metres, and the Montagne Noire is 1200 meters high, so we have beautiful thermal amplitudes between day and night and beautiful freshness in wines. The Château has well grouped plots not excluding a variety of expositions, terroirs and reliefs...
