Château Pépusque - Pépieux

In the heart of the Minervois, the vineyard of Château Pépusque extends around the village of Pépieux and on the first slopes of the Montagne Noire, AOC Minervois. The climate is very dry and warm but "the wind that comes down the mountain" brings freshness and fragrance. The slopes of Pepieux offer an exceptional terroir giving elegant wines with a freshness, acidity noticed by connoisseurs. It is here that was born the "wine of the Cathars" which made the reputation of the village and we find today the syrahs with aromas of blackcurrant and liquorice.
Château Pépusque - Pépieux
Château Pépusque also benefits from vines on the Terroir de La Livinière, ranked first "appellation village" AOC Languedoc. Taking advantage of this exceptional situation, Renée and Benoît Laburthe returned to work the vines of their grandfather, in 1986. They develop the spirit of artisan winemakers made of Tradition and Quality. For this, they have surrounded themselves with a team of valuable partners who work in real complementarity and in an original approach: according to the method Cousinié *.

Thus we can offer you tasty wines, with multiple expressions thanks to the diversity of grape varieties and these 2 soils.

The Château Pepusque is a family estate. Renée and Benoît Laburthe are the heirs of a family that has owned vines in Pépieux for more than 200 years.

Located in AOC Minervois, on the cru Livinière, at the foot of the Montagne Noire, this vineyard benefits from extreme climatic and geographical conditions which bring a foehn effect with a cool summer wind, favorable to the vines breathing.

The terroir of Pepieux is known worldwide by wine professionals looking for Syrah. This grape, originally from Côte Rôtie in the Rhone Valley, develops aromas of blackcurrant with hints of liquorice.

The Laburthe are defined as "artisan-winemakers". A guarantee of tradition and quality. According to Benoît Laburthe, "tradition does not prevent the search for improvement by using scientific knowledge that is beneficial to the quality of the wine and the sustainability of the vineyard".

This passionate winemaker has surrounded himself with partners of excellence with whom he works in complementarity, both on the management of his vineyards and on the level of winemaking and aging. Drawing on this technical team and its workers, Château Pepusque pursues the objective of developing tasty wines with many different expressions. All thanks to the diversity of grape varieties and terroir. Constantly growing, it aims for excellence to satisfy and surprise the consumer.

Minervois

A.O.C. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....
