“It’s in this magic place of La Clape between land and sea where the jewels of Languedoc are produced".

A wine-growing domaine only merits the denomination of a Château if within the estate one of the buildings has been given such a distinction during its history. La Négly’s started in the 18th century when the Château displayed the name of Ancely. In 1781, the estate took the name of Nerly to finally be called LA NÉGLY in 1807.
Château la Négly - Fleury d'Aude
The Château de la Négly is located in Languedoc 20km from Narbonne in the heart of Le Clape massif, in the zone of the Appellation d’Origine Protégée. This massif listed as a world heritage site, meaning “pile of stones” in Occitan, was an Island in the Gallo-Roman era before the river Aude annexed it to the continent with its alluvial deposits.

Its soil is composed of sandy silt, derived from very porous limestone rock slides, thus allowing the rainwater to establish a vital reserve for our vines. The proximity of the sea offers the vineyard a maritime influence which tempers the harsh climate due to the sun and the Tramontane, a powerful and dry wind from the North.

Ideally situated, the terroirs of La Négly and Boède are distinguished by the diversity of their soils. Indeed, Boède has sandy loam and sandstone soil and La Négly had clay limestone soil which gives to the wines produced from these vineyards a broad aromatic palate. The vineyard stretches over 50 hectares and Boède over 25. In order to enable better use of this vineyard, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre have taken the place of Aramon, Terret and Carignan Blanc. The harvesting machinery has given up its place to secateurs and crates. Bastien Paux-Rosset, head of wine growing, operates these re-planted vineyards which stretch over 75 hectares. Sustainable agriculture methods are perfectly adapted to our qualitative exigencies. Short pruning, low use of fertiliser, frequent labouring of the soil, high trellising around 1.80m, are all quality guarantees. The 12 permanent employees are all just as passionate as one another, and the most fervent supporters of the wines that we produce.

The harvest is completely manual in 10kg crates. Once the grapes are harvested at their optimal ripeness they are brought very quickly to the storage cellar to prevent any oxidation phenomena.
They are sorted, according to the health of the grapes, between 4 and 8 people literally operate on the bunches. Taking turns to discard the grapes that are not ripe enough, those with botrytis or those that are overripe leaving only those that are perfectly healthy.
Sustainable agriculture is a major objective; nothing is left to chance, debudding, leave removal, manual harvests, double sorting at the table, low and well-managed yields.
Our treasures: L’Ancely, La Porte du Ciel, Le Clos des Truffiers.
In order to obtain the best from our wines, these cuvees come from very low yields, around 10 hectolitres per hectare, they are harvested at optimal maturity, sorted grape by grape, vinified in wooden conical vats and finally aged for two years in new wooden barrels. These nectars will be the joy of the most informed taste buds.

La Clape

La Clape

The La Clape AOC is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character...

Narbonne

Narbonne

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés.
