In this amphitheatre that is the Languedoc, overlooking the Mediterranean , is situated the oldest vineyard in France, a very special terroir nestling between Narbonne and the sea: Le Massif de La Clape.
Château Capitoul - Narbonne
For a long time called 'insula laci' because of its many lakes, whose basins can be observed to this day, the Massif de la Clape was , 600 years ago, a craggy island.

From the end of the 2ndcentury B.C. the Romans colonised La Clape. t is within this «Little Tuscany» that is situated the 60 hectares of Chateau Capitoul vineyard.

  Specialties

The art of the winemaker lies in the choice of these blends. This is what defines the essence of AOC wines. Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah for red and rosé wines. Bourboulenc and Grenache Blanc for white wines. Other varieties are present in this region: Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier and Cinsault.

Dedicated to Fernand AUPECLE who bought Capitoul in the 1930's and whose first domaine in Algeria was called MAELMA. The personality of the vintage, is different every year. This great wine expresses the diversity of our terroirs and grape varieties that make up the richness of the Languedoc and the vineyards of the Mediterranean.

Like all great things, often by chance, an unfortunate oversight leads to this great grape being overlooked. Harvested in November, slowly fermented and aged 36 months in new oak barrels, this exceptional wine will make your meal a grand moment of indulgence...

La Clape

La Clape

The La Clape AOC is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character...

Organic Wine

Organic Wine

The cornerstone of organic farming is the soil. Maintaining a healthy, biologically active soil is the main objective for an organic farmer. In the vineyard it means cultivating the soil and planting cover crops, instead of applying herbicides. It means using natural fertilizers, such as composted animal manure, versus chemical fertilizers. Organic growers use no synthetic growth-regulators (such as Alar). As for not using pesticides, the organic alternative is to encourage natural predators of insect pests instead of using poisonous insecticides. Organic farmers promote "biodiversity" and allow plants other than vines to grow in and around the vineyard. Biodiversity helps regulate the vineyard soil by attracting beneficial insects, spiders and predatory mites, as well as provide shelter and food (pollen, nectar and other bugs), and replaces the need for chemical pesticides or insecticides. What cannot be fully controlled through biodiversity can still be managed organically, through the use of naturally occurring plant or mineral extracts, which leave no residues in the soil. In wet climates the main difficulty is raised by the use of copper sulfate against mildew, which leaves over time levels of copper in the soil that need to be monitored....
