Château Auzias - Pennautier

The Auzias Domain, located two steps away from Cité de Carcassonne and Canal du Midi, is exploited by Chateau Auzias-Paretlongue in Cabardès, which story dates back to the beginning of the 12th century.

Some ancient writings mention a spendid gallo-roman villa and describe many battles that took place there. The vineyard is very old because as early as in 1111, in the middle of the cathar period, the Carcassonne Chanoines founded the Notre Dame de Pareti-Logi abbey.

The vineyard extends without interruption to around 160 hectares and it goes through two villages of Cabardès : Pennautier and Villemoustaussou, only two step away from Cité de Carcassonne and Canal du Midi. These two sites are labelled as patrimony of Humanity.

The 80 hectares vineyard is composed of an exceptional clay and limestone terroir dating back several thousand years. On one side, there are hills covered by rolled pebbles (AOP Cabardès), at the foot of Montagne Noire. On the other side there are small plains bordered by the Fresquel river (Wine from the Cité de Carcassonne).

The Paretlongue vineyard was one of the first grapes "improver" to be planted in Languedoc.

  Specialties

Located o, the gentle slopes of Montagne Noire, Cabardès is the most oriental southwestern vineyard and the most occidental vineyard of the Languedoc Roussillon region.

This transitional area between Aquitaine and Languedoc has an exceotional microclimate that benefits simultaneously from the sweet Atlantic weather and from the Mediterranean warmth.

Influences at the same time by the Marin (esat wind) and the Cers (west wind), Cabardès is the only French Terroir in which you can grow Atlantic and Mediterranean grapes with optimal conditions. This dual influence where Cabernet and Merlot as well as Grenache and Syrah can blossom facilitates the production of incomparable wine that combine the power and richness of languedoc and the delicacy and freshness of bordeaux wines.

Today, the historical sustainability of Chateau Auzias comes from the amazing success of its terroir which extends from the Montagne noire gravely hills to the Fresquel sandbanks.

A success also due to the delicacy of the Atlantic and Mediterranean grapes, thanks to an exceptional microclimate with both east winds and west winds and to the men and women who dedicated their life to it...

Cabardès

A.O.P. Cabardès

The Cabardès region is situated to the west of Languedoc and to the south of the central massif, a geologist's dream, balanced between east and west, the sun and the coolness, the heathland and the mountain. It is here that the winds cross. They bring the intense mediterranean heat necessary for southern "cépages" (grape types) such as syrah and grenache, and the cool atlantic humidity for the ocean "cépages": merlot, cabernet-sauvignon, cabernet-franc, cot and fer-servadou, to prosper. The vineyards and wines of Cabardès have been recognized as AOC since february 1999. The quality of the grapes, the wine-making, the blending of the "cépages" and the keeping of the wines has allowed us to obtain the best balance between fruit and structure, fullness and complexity, intensity and elegance. Cabardès assembles 30 châteaux and domaines over 500 productive hectares spread amongst 18 villages. 20000 hectolitres are produced each year,of which 60% are exported....

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....
