Château Auris - Narbonne

With a total surface area of 300 ha, the Château Auris is located on the Northern slope of a woody massif (Fontfroide massif), which is a natural protection for the 40 unbroken ha of vines which are situated at its foothill. The Château and its surrounding buildings are strategically located in the middle of the vineyard. This enables a better supervision of the works as well as a quicker conveying of the crop to the cellar during harvest, which allows for a better management of the quantities harvested and a better selection of the different quality batches.

Château Auris, ideally located, the cellars consist of 3 different parts:

- The fermentation room: The grapes can arrive into the winery, either directly above the tanks (concrete or stainless steel), or from the lower part of the building.

- The barrel room: built below the soil level, the conditions for maturing wines are perfect. It can contain 250 barrels.

- The bottle room: separated of the two other rooms, it allows a good management (and in dryer conditions) of dry goods, bottling ands shipments.

  Specialties

Lying against the northern slope of the Fontfroide massif, Château Auris benefits from a Mediterranean climate which is tempered and fresh.

Two geological zones are present:

- Sandstone colluviums soils along the northern slope. This poor hillside terroir which does not have very deep subsoil, is ideal for the production of elegant full bodied red wines. Due to the position of its hillsides a slower ripening occurs compared to other “warmer terroirs” of the Corbières appellation. Cool nights and warm days allow to preserve fresh fruit aromas and vivacity in the wines.

- Sand-clay soils, on the other side of the 613 road, below the Château. Lower and deeper, these cooler soils are very well adapted to the production of aromatic rosé and white wines.

Representing a total area of more than 41hectares, the breakdown is as follows :
AOC Corbières white : 2 ha 95 a 80 ca
AOC Corbières red/rosé : 38 ha 22a 32 ca

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Musée Archéologique de Peyriac-de-Mer

The Archaeological Museum de Peyriac-de-Mer, created by Henri Fabre in 1955, it brings together the product of excavations by the latter with Henri Barbouteau. Many traces show an occupation around the Doul since prehistoric times. The sarcophagus remains of St Paul reminds the implantation site of the old church and the location of the original village. In Gallo-Roman times, a habitat has been organized on the oppidum of the mill. The excavations have delivered a magnificent collection of amphorae and many everyday items.
